Others Opinions are Optional

I was reminded recently of a moment many years ago in a different country when my friend Nancy Lee Kramer and I went shopping with her newborn baby. As she carried him in her arms into the store, a mom passed by and said she was carrying his head too high. We went a little further and a passing mom said his head is too low. Some opinions are extremely helpful. Some are not. Some can be painful and, if accepted, make you feel like you've failed at something you care deeply about – your child. Pick and choose, but try to be discerning and wise. This is definitely a weak area for me. I try to compare it to scripture and what God's Spirit tells me. I often run it past friends I respect.

When I was struggling with some advice recently, a wise friend told me something like this: Opinions are like arm-pits. Everyone has them but not all of them are pretty and perfumed. HaHaHa This applies to receiving opinions but also to the opinions we give. Maybe the lesson is to be more cautious when we throw out our opinions as well. Hmmm.....Good matter for prayer as we begin to add a filter to our ears as well as our mouths.

How are some ways you decide if the opinion is valid?
