Trusting God in the midst of difficulties

With all that is transpiring in weather and earthquakes and tragedies, many tips and ideas seem trivial right now. I'm not sure I can add anything to that which is being said by very wise people across the country. But, with that acknowledged, let me try to encourage you with a few simple thoughts and suggestions for action: God is not surprised by these events, and He is a Good Father. Pray for those affected by this tragedy. Be faithful to give as God leads you.

Trust a Sovereign God who knows our future and Who always prepares His children. Raise your daughters and sons to be strong in difficult times. Strong enough to lean hard on Jesus. And, on top of that, trust God to prepare your children to face their future - whatever it holds. No mother can prepare her child to walk through events like these. But He can and does. He helps us all walk through the struggles we each face. I'm sure many of these people would say that they found strength they didn't know they had to face what they are going through.

Teach your children to be pray-ers and to be generous in times like these. For something practical: Help them find ways to give to those in need. Maybe "things" are not most needed right now, but involve your children in the giving that your family does, as well as in the prayers for these families (without letting them take these burdens on their tiny shoulders.) Remind them that there are adults who are taking care of people in need and that their job is to be happy children while thinking of others as well.

Sending hugs to anyone who is hit hard by this. Praying for those that are struggling.
